Riverview Lutheran Academics
Assisting parents in preparing children for lives of service to God.
Academic success is measured by summative tests where Riverview students outperform local and national averages, yet academic achievement originates with professional instructors who care for individual souls.

Small class sizes, combined with professional planning, results in the best combination of home schooling and traditional community schools.

Riverview instructors design a rigorous curriculum plan for all students, then tailor unique support to challenge students where they are gifted and strengthen areas of need.
WORD OF GOD
Riverview Lutheran School provides a quality Christian education ranging from three-year-old preschool through eighth grade. As a Christian school, we provide daily instruction in the truth of God's Word and promote the Lutheran faith. In addition to this, all the core areas of learning are presented in the light of God's Word: the child is taught to behold the guiding hand of God, the Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier, as shown in the creation of the world, in the course of events in history, and the entire life of every individual. It is our promise to rely upon the Word of God as the only sure foundation for all teaching. "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." I Corinthians 3:11
FINE ARTS
Music
God created us to be instruments with the ability to sing and make music. Music is an important part of worship and praise to God. Music education is important not only for the marketable skills it teaches: creativity, discipline, flexibility, and the ability to cooperatively work with others, but also because it is a way to connect students with their own emotions. We must allow students to find ways to access and express their creative potential through the study of music. Finally, we want all of our students to use their musical abilities to honor, serve, and praise our Savior.
Junior Choir
Music is truly a gift of God and is highlighted in our classrooms and our junior choir. The RLS Junior Choir is made up of all students in grades 6 - 8. Students are challenged to learn 2 and 3 part choral music and sing in church 6 or 7 times a year. Special events include Fox Valley Lutheran High School's MusicFest and the Good Friday Tre-Ore service at St. Paul Lutheran of Appleton.
Art
Riverview Lutheran School believes that God is the ultimate artist who created art as an opportunity to worship Him, to serve others, and for personal enjoyment by fostering an appreciation for art and the development of creativity and self-expression. The curriculum is based on art production, art theory, art history, art criticism, aesthetics, and interdisciplinary connections.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Reading
Instructors in the primary grades utilize proven strategies to enable students to become adept in decoding and comprehension strategies at an early age. Most students begin reading by the end of the kindergarten year. In the middle and upper grades, teachers use a variety of methods. Award winning and classic literature promote higher order reading skills to increase comprehension abilities and develop the lifetime enjoyment of reading.
English
Students excel in grammar and punctuation rules during their primary years. They practice and expand on these skills every year. Students are also being coached in their writing skills through a variety of unique writing opportunities.
Spelling
Students at Riverview follow a rigorous spelling curriculum that through a variety of proven strategies teaches the students to master the art of spelling. Each week, students learn rules regarding spelling and practice on word tests to reinforce the rules.
STEM
Math
Students master traditional methods of thinking critically and exploring math concepts. By graduation, most Riverview students have completed a year of high school level Algebra.
Science
Students at Riverview know and believe that God created a working, perfect universe including the earth system in six twenty-four hour days and understand that God still preserves it today. This one absolute truth is the unifying connection between all science standards. Students at RLS will understand that science is ongoing and inventive, and that scientific understandings have changed over time as new evidence is found. Students will also understand that while scientific understanding may change over time, God's Word is changeless. When studying a science related problem, Riverview students will apply God's truths. They will predict future events or changes in the natural world, realizing that we are the caretakers of God's universe. They will state what they have learned from investigations, relating their inferences to Christian faith and scientific knowledge, and to the data they have collected. Riverview students will realize that the more they learn about science, the better they will understand God's universal organization. Students will understand science better when they connect and integrate the understandings and skills found in the Riverview's science curriculum guide into what they know about themselves, their faith, and the world around them.
Technology
Riverview's goal in technology is to promote educational excellence by facilitating communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity through the use of technology in the classroom. Technology is embedded in every element of society. Students need to be prepared to make wise decisions when online and using technology. These blessings from God can also be used to advance the reach of the Gospel.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Social studies is the integrated study of economics, geography, history, and political science to promote civic competence as well as caring for our world and the people in it by sharing the Gospel message in our words and actions. The standards outlined in our curriculum provide an important foundation to prepare students to become engaged, informed participants committed to the ideas and values of our democratic republic, able to apply the skills of inquiry, collaboration, decision-making, and problem-solving.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Through the study of physical education, Riverview Lutheran School students will come to a deeper appreciation for their bodies and knowledge of how to keep their bodies fit. Nurtured by the experiences of exercise, play, movement and sports, the students will engage in the process of life-long physical fitness. They will learn how to live healthy lives by acquiring life-long fitness and sports skills, knowing that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
